It is all a bit exciting, the painting is finished on the new house and the tiles are going in this week. They should be finished at the end of the week.
Entry, door has been stained too
Lounge bi-fold doors.. great for shutting out the kids mess while it is a playroom, and the light when it is eventually a theatre room.
Gotta love the sign they put up.. abuse of this home will not be tolerated.. he he
The family room looks so darn big at the moment.
yeah I know a boring garage but I am loving the doors. LOL
LOVING how good the kitchen colours look!
Progress on the shed is a little slow, but they have a few weeks yet.
No idea when the driveway is going in, they have done some of the electrics, can’t wait to see more of what has been done!
The kids are just itching to move into the new house! I suspect if we get the keys mid week we might be sleeping on mattresses the first night! LOL Should be fun!
Our van finally kicked the bucket last week. It was a very rusty bucket and long overdue but we were just hoping it would last a few more months till we sold our house. Luckily we have found a good replacement at a good price so hopefully by next week Dean will be driving around a new van if all goes well. Fingers crossed! Now we just need the Camry to last a few more months! It is not quite so rusty but is ready to kick the bucket any time now… knock on wood!
My MRI the other day went well, it appears I am definately not claustrophobic! It was a little noisy in there but the whole process wasn’t too bad at all.
I haven’t updated on my health for a while so I thought I would post another update.
Going to the Gold Coast crop weekend before last, took a lot out of me as it was pretty full on and it has really worn me out this past week! I had a wonderful time however so it was totally worth it! I took a sick day on Friday and took it pretty easy the entire weekend and I am still exhausted.
What I wouldn’t give to work from home right now, to be able to work when I am well and rest when I am not, would be wonderful, as I am really struggling with having to go to work every day right now. As awful for my health as the cortisone is, it is days like I have been having this past week that make me wish I was back on the higher dosage.
I have started having new symptoms the last few weeks. I am currently on 7.5mg of cortisone which I was to have down to zero by the time I saw my rheumatologist next month. However with some new symptoms appearing he wants me to stay on the current dosage till I see him.
I have started having occasional hand tremors which last for an hour or so before going away. And the past couple of weeks I have also started having numbness, pain and tingling in my right leg. I have also been having lower back pain which is different than usual so it is most likely sciatica, however my rheumatologist wants to be thorough and wants me to have an MRI to confirm the diagnosis and also to rule out MS which is also an autoimmune disorder. They are scanning two regions (brain and spine) which means it will cost over $500 out of pocket! I really don’t understand why they won’t cover MRI’s with medicare. You would think it was a pretty important medical proceedure a lot of the time. Â Oh well.. at this point I don’t care how much it costs, I just want answers.
My bet is that I have sciatica, since I have had lower back problems for years (just never involving nerves) and that the hand tremours are just related to my autoimmune issues. Wish me luck for the MRIÂ Monday week, I want to have the all clear on MS. I don’t really want to have that one!!! I have always wanted an MRI on my lower back, so it will be good to know exactly what is going on there, since I have always had issues with it.
I am back at my day job today after having a wonderful time at the Gold Coast for 4 days!
On Thursday I drove to Brisbane to pick up Margie, Allen, Lauren and Erica from the airport and take them to the Gold Coast.
Lauren very kindly uploaded this photo without photoshopping me first! I can’t believe how much weight I have gained on the cortisone! Scary!
Erica, Lauren, Allen, Margie and Me
It was absolutely wonderful to be able to meet my online work mates in person and get to know them in real life rather than just online.
Once we finally got to the Gold Coast we checked in and went in search of some lunch. We went to Billy Baxters on Caville Ave. We headed back to the hotel afterwards to settle into our rooms and then afterwards enjoyed a wonderful Buffett meal in the Hotel Restaurant.
On Thursday afternoon we had a wonderful time on the pre-crop Photo Walk. It was soo much fun getting to meet so many DSP members in the flesh all at once.
I took a few pics on the photo walk, I think I took more pics of the DSP’ers than I did of the scenery!
Here are a few of the photos I took on the walk.
Here are some picks from the Laptop Crop itself.
We had lots of fun scrapping and getting to know each other a little better and helping each other learn more about our craft! There was even a bit of line dancing involved, or should we say digidancing?? There were lots of prizes to be had with one lucky winner winning the Wacom Bamboo Fun Graphics Tablet!
I think the Wacom rep did quite well selling lots of tablets! I was a little naughty and couldn’t resist the wonderful deal he was offering and bought an Intuos 4! I can’t wait till it arrives!
I will have some more exciting news to share, but for now my lips are sealed.. stay posted and you will find out in good time.
Soo exciting, the kitchen is in, as are the cabinets in the bathrooms and the internal doors are also in. The outside is now (although not on these photos, is now completely finished apart from paint. The painting is apparently going to start next week. Our tanks are in which means if it rains we will be able to catch some. I am hoping we might get enough rain so that they might be full by the time we move in, so that I can enjoy a SPA!! I will have to pay a visit to the body shop to get some yummy bubbles and bath oil.
Front Panorama of house - stitched a couple of photos in photoshop for this one. Pity about the mini skip!
Panorama (photoshop stitched) photo of the SW corner of the house
Panorama of SE side of house - Patio roof is now up! YAY!
I can just picture us having dinner on that patio in Summer. We have a gas point to hook the BBQ up to, too which will be great! Sunday Morning BBQ breakfasts here we come!
Here is our kitchen, I am SO loving the colours, it is all a bit dusty, can't wait to see it all complete!
Different view of Kitchen, colours look closer to actual here.
Dean, as always in the way when I am trying to take photos, sink, bin, dishwasher space...
Really happy with the door handles, very swish! Just a standard inclusion too!
We will have a gas stove and electric wall oven, all new appliances will be stainless steel.
Should have taken a better pic of the pantry! Wall oven and microwave behind open door.
Family room full of STUFF right now, but you can see the patio cover, just
LOVING the linen space, Mum was a tad excited when she saw it too. LOL
Lots of shelves for the office, gotta love cupboard space!
Can't wait to see the front door stained.
The step in front of the spa is going, there is not enough leg room in front of the vanity
Looks blacker than it is in the photo, has a chocolately slate grey colour.
WIR, rails still to go in for hanging space
Main bathroom, shame you can't see the texture in the laminate
The broom closet is to the right. Dryer will be mounted above the washing machine
The bricks have been finished, the garage door is in and we are now at lockup. They have delivered the kitchen and bathrooms cabinetry so it won’t be long before they are installed by the sounds of it! So exciting! Only trouble is, since it is now at lockup, we can only get in the house during business hours by making an appointment first. I missed out on seeing the cabinetry because of the house being at lock up, but Dean went during the day and had seen them.
Garage Door is in!
Entry & you can't see it but the glass is acid etched
Front - I am loving the entry and the gables. We are both really happy with the colours.
Western Side of house from rear
Panorama of back of house, stitched in photoshop. There will eventually be a cover over the patio.
The slab for the shed has been laid as well. I forgot to take a photo of it, so will do that soon as well.
It is coming along so quickly! We really need to get a move on with packing!!! We have barely started. EEEK I have been too crook to do much, although I have done more than Dean! (I have done a whole box ROFL) He has been too busy training and triathaloning….
I have put my back out, so won’t be doing much this weekend either!
I have been meaning to post an update since last week but I have been crook with another flare up so haven’t had a chance.
They have put up all the gyprock on the internal walls and have done most of the plastering (more done since photos). Still no further progress on the bricks.. fingers crossed they might finish that this week.
Family Room - Kitchen high top to left
Master Bedroom - Left Wall
Master Bedroom - back wall
Master Bedroom - right wall (Ensuite & WIR)
Ensuite - check out the spa.. heaven for my aching joints!!!
Main Bathroom - kids are going to love having their own bathroom!
I haven’t posted anything on my health for a while so I thought I would post an update on how things are going with my health.
I am still in the process of reducing my prednisone dosage which is knocking me around a fair bit. Every time I reduce my dosage even by as little as 1mg, I get lots of facial and neck swelling which restricts my breathing a little and makes me snore! I have never snored in my life unless I have had a cold. I think Dean secretly enjoys that I am snoring for once because it is normally me who is waking him up and telling him to roll over because he is snoring and keeping me awake.
One of the first time I reduced my dosage the swelling around my neck was that bad that I woke up gasping for breath. Off to my gp I went and she ordered a scan of my thyroid which came up clear. It turns out the swelling happens every time I reduce my dosage but it seems to be less and less severe as my dosage decreases.
Each time I reduce my dose I also experience a flare up of symptoms. If it coincides with a change in weather it seems to be twice as bad. The last flare was over the Easter break. Easter Saturday I had three naps in one day and was STILL tired! Dean said you could see in my face how tired I was. I still needed a nap again on Sunday and thankfully Monday I got through the whole day without one. Wahoo! I guess I should be thankful it happened during my days off work so I didn’t need to use up more of my nearly non existant sick days!
I have been working through lunch breaks at work so that I have a bit of extra time up my sleeve for such occasions as I am constantly running out of sick days.
I was hoping to get two kits done over the Easter break but because I was so crook ( joint pain was really bad too) I only manged to do one on Monday when I was feeling a fair bit better. When I am having a flare I have trouble concentrating and focusing on anything so that is not great for the designing mojo!
I am down to 10mg/day of the prednisone now as of today, so am expecting another flare by the weekend. I am trying to get off the prednisone as soon as I can because I think I have gained about 10kg’s now on it which is scaring me silly. I so do not need any more extra weight! I am running out of clothes that fit and do not want to buy any bigger sizes! I hope I will be able to loose it all ok once I am off the prednisone. Fingers crossed that once I am off it I do not revert back to my previous symptoms making it impossible to do any excercise. Fingers crossed that by the time I am off the prednisone the plaquenil will start to kick in and I will start getting better again!
I hope that the prednisone weight is not too hard to loose once I am off it. Wish me luck, I think I will need it!
It is just getting more and more exciting and I can’t believe how quick it is going. One of my work mates had just finished telling me yesterday that the brick work is often one of the last things done because brickies are so hard to come by and we go and see the house today and they have started! She was saying that one of our other work mates had the kitchen in and everything before they even started the bricks! Well not so in our case!
We have half a wall of bricks and we are both really happy with how it looks, so that is good! We are loving the colour choices so far and glad we spent the teeny bit extra to get the teeny bit nicer version of the bricks we chose. These ones have slightly flattened edges on them, the cheaper ones didn’t. But over the cost of the house it didn’t make a huge amount of difference so we went with the nicer dearer ones.
Anyway, some more pics for you…
The insulation has been installed in all the walls, & Jaz with her Barbie car.
The cornices have been delivered also, you can sdee them on the floor there.
Front of house, gyprock delivered in garage and brickwork on side.
The start of the brickwork, a whole half a wall... almost
I was running late for work this morning, got the kids in the car and hopped in the drivers seat. I looked up at the rear vision mirror and it was GONE!!! Yes GONE!
WHAT THE! The first thing that crossed my mind is that someone was playing a prank, then thought, maybe it has fallen off and started looking around the car, on the floor etc.
Finally when I start to get cranky Kyan pipes up, have a look in there Mummy (pointing at the glove box). I open the glove box and lo and behold there is the rear vision mirror!
Then I remember seeing Kyan walking inside with Dean’s car keys. Dean had let him take the keys out to the car so he could get something out of it… and the penny drops.
Kyan LOVES playing in the car and pretending to drive it.. no more letting him get things out of the car on his own, that is for sure!!!
Anyway, so I ask Kyan ‘How do you know it was in there?’. He looks at me and says with perfect innocence, ‘I don’t Know?’.
So I ask him, ‘Did you put it in there?’. With equal perfect innocence he says…’No’.
I tell him I think he did put it in there and he looks at me dumbfounded as if he can’t work out how I could possibly figure it out that he put it in there…at that point I just had to get going so put it back on and I left it at that, explaining to him the importance of the rear vision mirror as we drove on….
A few more house photos. I went out this afternoon as I wanted to see the roof and windows, and it looks like the external doors are in as well. I couldn’t take many photos as the builders were still there and there were vehicles all over the place in the way. I am loving the shape of the roof line with the 3 gables. Really happy with the choice of roof colours also, can’t wait to see the brickwork start!
You can see the tanks ready to go in on this last one. I keep wondering when they are going to start the shed!
There has been more work done since these photos, but I haven’t been back to have another look yet. They were doing the windows on Thursday and I suspect the roof might be finished by now. The electrical wiring was being done on Thursday as well.
Anyway, here are my last lot of photos, this is the first chance I have had to post them! At least you get to see the roof colour, even tho it isn’t finished yet! Images are clickable to larger versions.
Oh it is so very exciting watching the house progress. I have been hanging for the frame to go up to get a better feel for where everything was going to be and as crazy as it sounds, now that the frame is up it is already starting to feel like home!
We went and had a look yesterday and I took some photos. Apparently the roof trusses are going up today so we will go and have another look this afternoon.
Anyway, here are the pics! (clicking on them shows the full size version)
The frames are up!
You can kind of see the hall leading from the garage to the bedrooms in this pic.
This is the lounge room, with the entry to the right.
Jasmine at her bedroom window, apparently she has always wanted a window JUST like this! ;-)
Jasmine, apparently 'sitting on the toilet'.
Kyan in his bedroom cupboard.
Kyan looking out his bedroom window.
Our bedroom window - sliding door to left, ensuite & WIR to right
It is not as if we didn’t already know it, but yes our daughter is a major drama queen!
We have this head lice prevention spray as both our kids got a bout of head lice recently thanks to some of Jasmine’s classmates. We got rid of them thankfully and have been using a head lice prevention spray on their hair in the hopes of preventing them from getting another bout of it from other kids at school.
Anyway, it has tea tree oil in it and really gets up your nose when you spray it and so she always carries on a bit when it happens as do I a little as it gets up my nose too.
Anyway, today I sprayed her hair with detangle spray as her hair was wet and tangled and she started carrying on the way she does when I use the head lice spray! Huffing and puffing and screwing up her nose and carrying on.. until I pointed out that it was detangle spray and NOT head lice spray.
So I made some fun of her being a drama queen and she then hammed it up even more. Carrying on and pretending to be offended that I called her a Drama Queen!
I just HAD to take note of this because I so need to do a layout and didn’t want to forget!
Today is my Oma’s Birthday! I wish I could be there to wish her a Happy Birthday in person! So Oma, sending you lots of Happy Birthday thoughts across the oceans! Hartelijk Gefiliciteerd met je verjaardag Oma! Ik hou van jou!
I had a follow up appointment with my Rheumatologist yesterday. I was kinda hoping he would tell me to stay on the Prednisone until the Plaquenil has had more time to work because I really feel like I need it. The lower my dosage gets the sicker I start to feel again. I knew I was sick, but I didn’t realise just how sick I was till I started to feel normal again.
My thought processes are slowing again, which is so frustrating.. I am getting a foggy head and very forgetful. That had all stopped on the full dose of Prednisone and it was WONDERFUL to be thinking clearly! I have been making really stupid mistakes at work which is not going down very well. I am trying hard to do well but my brain just won’t work!!! The tiredness is coming back.. slowly.. but I am getting back to needing naps again on the weekend, which I hadn’t needed for a while. My joints are starting to hurt again and feel stiff, as well as my back and spine feeling sore and stiff especially in the mornings. My skin is getting soo itchy again. I am getting headaches again, which stopped on the full dose of prednisone. I had always dismissed the headaches as just one of those things.. but it looks like it is connected.
So back to the doc visit.. he wants me off the prednisone as it is not good long term. I know it isn’t.. because I have heard so much stuff about it, and I am gaining weight on it, getting high blood pressure, and my cholesterol has gone up on it. But I just FEEL so much better on it. So basically he wants me to keep tapering the dose, and wants me off it entirely by the time I see him again in 3mths. He says I need to give the Plaquenil at least another 3mths which makes sense from what I have read as it apparently takes 3-6mths to work. He said if the Plaquenil is not working by then we can discuss other stronger immune suppressant drugs to try which by his expression was not an idea he was keen on, but at this point I don’t feel I have a choice. If the Plaquenil doesn’t work.. I just won’t be able to keep functioning the way I was.Â
My blood work again was inconclusive, only showing inflamation again, still even with the prednisone. He said I obviously have some sort of systemic inflamatory disease.. but he just can’t tell me what. [thanks to my very unhelpful bloodwork!]
I can feel all the symptoms slowly coming back and it is an unpleasant reminder of how crappy I was feeling. I so don’t want to go back there as it is no way to live! Not to mention the fact I would not be holding on to my job much longer!!
So I am trying so very hard to think positive that the Plaquenil will start working it’s magic very soon… fingers crossed!
We lost our darling son Jacob. Sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago, sometimes it feels like yesterday. For those who don’t know the story, he was 18wks when we found out he had a neural tube defect called anencephaly. We still don’t know why he was unlucky enough to have it, since I was taking pre-natals and folic acid and all the rest of it.
Basically it means his spine didn’t form correctly in the early weeks of the pregnancy and he was missing the top part of his head from the eyebrows up. He only had the lower part of his brain, the brain stem. He had zero chance of surival past birth so we chose to end the pregnancy early. It was a very hard decision but the one that was best for us as a family. We did not want to prolong the grief any longer than we had to. As it turned out and to our great relief, he ended up passing away before the proceedure.
Yesterday we had a birthday cake to celebrate his birthday. The kids had lots of questions about him and wanted to see photos. Even though they have never met him, they both miss him a lot as do we. Kyan was fascinated by the photos of him, at how tiny he was and what he looked like. He is still trying to get his head around the concept of not living anymore after you die though and was asking when he would come alive again. I think he is slowly starting to understand that he wont.
I wanted to do a layout about him last night but the kit I wanted to use isn’t finished yet! So it will have to wait a few more days till I can finish it up. Not really sure what I want to put on it yet…
It is all so bittersweet, because as much as we wish Jacob was still here, if he were, Kyan wouldn’t be.
