It’s been a while!

It has been a while since I have done an update so I thought it was time to post a blog post on how things are going with us. So much has changed since last time I wrote.

We are nicely settled into our new home. That is we are moved in and comfortable! I still have lots of boxes in the garage that need unpacking that I will do as time permits. Our old house sold fairly quickly after our third contract on it! It sold quick but the first two contracts fell through, but we were third time lucky. Unfortunately the bank wanted more of our equity than we expected so we don't have as much left over as we were hoping.

We were planning on using some of it to buy a new car, since our old one has died.. the engine is kaput and it is still sitting in the back yard. We need to get it to the wreckers but we haven't got to that yet. We got lucky because my brother bought a new one, and didn't need his old one any more and it wasn't worth selling so he let us have it. It will do just fine for the time being especially since….I am no longer working outside the home!!

That's right, if you haven't already heard, I am no longer working as an Admin Manager. After 3yrs in an accounting firm as the admin manager where I did payroll, in house accounts amongst other things, it was time for me to start putting my health first. My health was making it very difficult for me to maintain my work standards and I was finding it harder and harder to manage working full time with set hours.

So what now?? Well since I already have the best job in the world designing for DSP, which I was already doing on the side, I am now doing it full time, well full time with the added benefit of working when I am well and taking it easy when I am not. My hours are as flexible as they can get, I can work at 2am in my jammies, or 9.30am when the kids are at school or 8pm when the kids are in bed, or pretty much any time I feel like it. I love designing and am so lucky to be able to do it as a job now even tho I am unwell. I couldn't have a more suitable job for my illness which at this stage still looks to be Mixed Connective Tissue disease according to my Rheumatologist.

I have symptoms of several Auto-Immune diseases which may later develop into a specific one or may remain overlapping. Auto-immune diseases are notoriously difficult to diagnose even when the symptoms are clear but in the meantime at least I am being treated and now that I am no longer working outside the home, I can put my health first instead of my job but still earn money while doing so! YEAH!

The kids are doing great. Jasmine is about to turn 8 and is such a lovely young lady! She just got her ear's pierced today as an early birthday present. She is starting year 3 this year… boy it goes fast!! Kyan (my baby!!!) is starting prep this year! It will be good to have them in the one place instead of one at school and one at daycare. Although for the first time they have both been enjoying the entire Christmas break at home, and getting to know the kids in our new neighbourhood. I love that I can work even while they are home from school! Although maybe not as efficiently!!!

I think that is pretty much all of it. We had a lovely Christmas and new year and the kids are looking forward to going to school. I am loving spending more time designing although I think it will be easier when the kids are at school! I get so many interruptions at the moment while they are home, which is fine of course, I am enjoying spending so much time with them at the moment.

Oh nearly forgot! Dean has moved the workshop to home now and is now working at home which works well because if he wants to work extra hours, he can do so without feeling like he can't see the kids while he is gone. And now we don't have to waste rent on a shed and can put that money towards our house instead! We still in the process of organising curtains. We have some roman blinds on layby for the family room and have ordered some fabric for the kids rooms and will have them made very soon. Ours will be next after those I think. Yes, we just have sheets on the windows at the moment! It will take time to get it all done but it will happen bit by bit.

We need to get a ride on mower too because we don't have a mower and our block is an acre, so it is a bit expensive to have someone else mow each time! So that is on the priority list as well at the moment.

Anyway, so lots of changes for us, but hopefully all for the better! I think life will be a lot less stressful and much simpler now, and hopefully Dean won't have to work too many extra hours!! How else will he fit all that triathlon training in???

Moved in for 2 weeks & update

We have been in our new house for 2 weeks now. We are still totally surrounded by boxes, but we will get there eventually I am sure. We still haven’t quite finished moving out of the old house and once that is finished Dean will have to move the shop to our shed at the house. It is going to be a huge job because there is heaps of stuff that has been there for many years. He will also have to cut things down a lot because he is moving into a much smaller shed, but we do have a lot of excess stuff in storage that we really don’t need to keep anymore.

The kids are really enjoying the house. Kyan’s favourite thing is the automatic roller door. He loves that it opens automatically when we drive in and out. Jasmine loves that her new room is nowhere near as cold as her old one. She had the coldest room in the house before because it is a wooden house and she had windows on two walls that let in lots of cold air.

They are both also loving their new play room which will eventually be a lounge/theatre room. At present we are content to watch movies and tv in the main living area although the kids have our old tv in their play room so they can at least watch different stuff to us. The new kitchen is my favourite part of the new house. It’s big enough for two or even three people without running into one another all the time. I am also loving the walk in pantry. I have been wanting one of those for the longest time.

The ensuite feels like such a major luxury which I can’t quite get used to! It is such a novelty to only have to walk a few steps to go to the toilet in the middle of the night!

I am the only one who hasn’t tried the spa yet! And now it turns out the pump for our tank isn’t wired up like we thought and so I won’t be having one till it is now. We have been watering the turf diligently (trying to get it going) thinking we were using tank water! Not happy! What a waste of the town water!

Dean rang the builder about it yesterday so hopefully they will fix it soon!

I am struggling with work at the moment. I have had to take lots of sick days because of frequent flare ups which I now think are being triggered by stress.  It looks like there might be changes happening on the work front as I am just not handling it anymore. I can’t say too much now as nothing is official yet but suffice to say I need to make changes to reduce stress so that I can stop being so sick all the time! Fingers crossed it works out like we hope it will.

Here It Is – All Finished!

WeHaveMoved-web

Here it is, our new home finished at last. Ok, I admit I cheated a little and photoshopped the grass as it is brown not green, but it will be green eventually! He he Especially if Dean retains his enthusiasm for watering it. He went over at 5am this morning to water it.

We will also need to do some seeding because we only got turf for the area immediately around the house. There is no way we could possibly turf an acre block unfortunately. I dread to think how much that will cost!

There are LOTS of weeds in the rest of the block so we will need to do something about that as well.  I think we should hire someone to seed and spray as we have no idea what we are doing.

Oh and we need to buy a ride on mower. Better sell our old house quick so we can actually afford one. Oh wait that means we have to actually get it ready to go on the market! We have decided to just sell it as is. We don’t have the time, inclination or money to do the finishing touches. It really only needs some paint and touch up work and a new laundry tub.  It will sell quick regardless because it fits into the first home owners market which is in high demand at the moment here.

The cleaners are over there at the moment cleaning away ready for the handover tomorrow. Wonder if they will pick up all the crap the workmen have left outside. Old drink bottles and cigarette buts all over the yard. I suspect they will only do the windows outside. Oooh which reminds me, must organise bins from the council!!!

We’re MOVING!

YAY! Finally it is close to the time we have been waiting for. Our house is being finished today and will be cleaned on Monday and Tuesday we get to move in! WAHOO!

Jasmine is so excited and couldn’t wait to tell her friends. Kyan is mostly concerned about whether we would still be able to find Sizzlers and his ‘Preschool’. He is having a little trouble getting his head around the whole concept and thinks we are moving to Brisbane. ROFL He KNOWS where the house is, and apparently it is in Brisbane. Anything that is more than 2 mins out of town is apparently Brisbane. LOL

Our turf is a little sad looking at the moment but hopefully will pick up once we get a chance to water it some more. Fingers crossed it doesn’t die on us!

So this weekend is going to be rather busy packing etc. The gas bottle doesn’t get installed till Wednesday so the first night we will be without hot water and gas for cooktop but we still have a gas bottle on our BBQ so will be able to cook dinner on that the first night.. or maybe even go to Sizzlers just to reassure Kyan! LOL

It is SO exciting after all this time to finally have a new house with space.

I will go out and take photos on the weekend. The driveway looks fabulous with the stencilling, it really finishes the place off. I may have to photoshop the rather brown looking turf tho! LOL

Getting there!

We were hoping to be in the house by now but there are a few things that need finishing off still and then we have to wait for the certificate of occupancy before we are allowed to move in. We do however have some more photos. We had another inspection last week and I took some photos while I was there.

No idea when the driveway is going in, they have done some of the electrics, can’t wait to see more of what has been done!

The kids are just itching to move into the new house! I suspect if we get the keys mid week we might be sleeping on mattresses the first night! LOL Should be fun!

Our van finally kicked the bucket last week. It was a very rusty bucket and long overdue but we were just hoping it would last a few more months till we sold our house. Luckily we have found a good replacement at a good price so hopefully by next week Dean will be driving around a new van if all goes well. Fingers crossed! Now we just need the Camry to last a few more months! It is not quite so rusty but is ready to kick the bucket any time now… knock on wood!

My MRI the other day went well, it appears I am definately not claustrophobic! 😉 It was a little noisy in there but the whole process wasn’t too bad at all.

The kitchen is in!

Soo exciting, the kitchen is in, as are the cabinets in the bathrooms and the internal doors are also in. The outside is now (although not on these photos, is now completely finished apart from paint. The painting is apparently going to start next week. Our tanks are in which means if it rains we will be able to catch some. I am hoping we might get enough rain so that they might be full by the time we move in, so that I can enjoy a SPA!! I will have to pay a visit to the body shop to get some yummy bubbles and bath oil.

We’re at Lock Up!

The bricks have been finished, the garage door is in and we are now at lockup. They have delivered the kitchen and bathrooms cabinetry so it won’t be long before they are installed by the sounds of it! So exciting! Only trouble is, since it is now at lockup, we can only get in the house during business hours by making an appointment first.  :-( I missed out on seeing the cabinetry because of the house being at lock up, but Dean went during the day and had seen them.

The slab for the shed has been laid as well. I forgot to take a photo of it, so will do that soon as well.

It is coming along so quickly! We really need to get a move on with packing!!! We have barely started. EEEK I have been too crook to do much, although I have done more than Dean! (I have done a whole box ROFL) He has been too busy training and triathaloning….

I have put my back out, so won’t be doing much this weekend either!

We have internal walls!

I have been meaning to post an update since last week but I have been crook with another flare up so haven’t had a chance.

They have put up all the gyprock on the internal walls and have done most of the plastering (more done since photos). Still no further progress on the bricks.. fingers crossed they might finish that this week.

The Brick Work has started!

It is just getting more and more exciting and I can’t believe how quick it is going. One of my work mates had just finished telling me yesterday that the brick work is often one of the last things done because brickies are so hard to come by and we go and see the house today and they have started! She was saying that one of our other work mates had the kitchen in and everything before they even started the bricks! Well not so in our case!

We have half a wall of bricks and we are both really happy with how it looks, so that is good! We are loving the colour choices so far and glad we spent the teeny bit extra to get the teeny bit nicer version of the bricks we chose. These ones have slightly flattened edges on them, the cheaper ones didn’t. But over the cost of the house it didn’t make a huge amount of difference so we went with the nicer dearer ones.

Anyway, some more pics for you…

A Couple more house photos..

Are ya bored of house photos yet??? he he..

A few more house photos. I went out this afternoon as I wanted to see the roof and windows, and it looks like the external doors are in as well. I couldn’t take many photos as the builders were still there and there were vehicles all over the place in the way. I am loving the shape of the roof line with the 3 gables. Really happy with the choice of roof colours also, can’t wait to see the brickwork start!

More house photos

There has been more work done since these photos, but I haven’t been back to have another look yet. They were doing the windows on Thursday and I suspect the roof might be finished by now. The electrical wiring was being done on Thursday as well.

Anyway, here are my last lot of photos, this is the first chance I have had to post them! At least you get to see the roof colour, even tho it isn’t finished yet! Images are clickable to larger versions.

The Frame is Up!! Wahoo!

Oh it is so very exciting watching the house progress. I have been hanging for the frame to go up to get a better feel for where everything was going to be and as crazy as it sounds, now that the frame is up it is already starting to feel like home!

We went and had a look yesterday and I took some photos. Apparently the roof trusses are going up today so we will go and have another look this afternoon.

Anyway, here are the pics! 😉 (clicking on them shows the full size version)

Christmas is coming! & update

Wow Christmas is coming way to fast, I just can’t keep up with the pace! Work is super busy and there is tons of stuff to do at home before Christmas, we have yet to put up the tree and finish buying presents. I still haven’t taken the photos for our Christmas cards, let alone sent them, they are looking like they are going to be late again this year!

I had my appointment with the rhematologist on Tuesday and unfortunately I STILL have no clear answers. My blood work only showed inflamation but no clear signs of exactly what the problem is. The doctor said I could have any of the autoimmune diseases, including Lupus, Scheroderma, Rheumatoid Arthritus, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease or even Still’s Disease which I think is also an Autoimmune Disease. He said he just can’t fit me into a neat little box.

From what I have read and heard Auto Immune Diseases are notoriously difficult to diagnose and I have heard many stories of it taking 5-10 years to get a diagnosis. I am thinking that as the disease progresses it will probably become more clear.

He offered to try treating it with prednisone if I wanted to and in a way tried to talk me out of it, but when he asked me what I thought I explained it is getting harder and harder to get through the working week and that it is effecting my work, and he said alright I think we should do it then. Prednisone is used as a treatment for all of the above diseases, so here’s hoping it will help. It has a lot of nasty side effects so it is going to be a see what happens kind of deal.

I started the medication on Tuesday night and I think I am noticing a slight improvement already. Fingers crossed it continues and the side effects aren’t too bad. I am on 25mg/day for the next month, then I have to reduce the dose by 1/4 of a tablet for the next month and another quarter the month after that, after which I have to go and see the rheumatologist again. He even gave me his email address which I have never had a doctor do before in case I have any problems with the Prednisone. So it is good to know I can easily contact him if I do experience any of the bad side effects.

Dean is still doing his triathalon training and is well and truely hooked. He is looking fitter and fitter every day and loosing some of his ‘beer’ belly. (not that he ever drinks much beer!) I am so proud of how much he is putting into it and how well he is doing, and how much his self confidence has improved since he started doing it. It really is great to see! Unfortunately it is a rather expensive hobby to get all the gear and to enter the comps, but he is enjoying it and it does him lots of good so you can’t begrudge him that at all!

Kyan has been very cranky the last few months, lots of tantrums and testing the boundries. Dean had a parent teacher interview at his kindy (I couldn’t make it because I am too busy at work) and they had noticed a change as well. They said he has been getting a bit bored in his current room and he is very ready to move up to the preschool room where it is more structured and they do a lot more ‘schooling’ type activities. They started transitioning him this week. I think it will do him good and be a bit more of a challenge for him. I think he is turning into a smart little cookie with a lot of ‘street smarts’. He is very observant and will often remember where things are when we can’t find them. I have been thinking that his crankyness is a combination of loosing his day naps, getting tired towards the end of the year, and testing the boundries a little as he gets a bit older. Fingers crossed it ends soon because his tantrums have been rather nasty and very testing!

Jasmine remains her consistent smart, well behaved and cheerful self, in between virus’s and illnesses that is. She has had her fair run of illness this year, her most recent an ear infection which she hasn’t had for quite some time. She is currently a bit wingy about all the mozzies that have come out in force thanks to our recent rain but apart from that she is doing well. Must dig out that mozzie zapper and a website addy I have yet to check out! I can’t wait till we have fly screens in the new house! She is enjoying her last weeks of year 1 and can’t wait to go to grade two! She still loves learning, reading and writing and appears to be a bit of a wizz at maths. She still loves her art and craft and being creative. I don’t think that will ever change since it is in her blood from both sides of the family!

The house plans are going well. We are in the final stages before it goes to council certification. We took a bit long over a few things which has delayed our starting date.  We are just waiting on one little thing and they will put it in for approval. Then hopefully in the new year building will start! YEAH! We have done all our selections and Dean is currently checking them all with all the suppliers to make sure everything is correct. Good thing he did because there were a couple of changes a few of them hadn’t made! It will be so exciting when building starts, I will be sure it innundate this blog with photos when it does! The current plan is that we should be able to move in in May, right at the start of winter. I am hanging for that spa bath to sooth my aching bones, fingers crossed there will be enough water in the tank to use it!

We have had lots of rain lately which is great, our dams are still critically low however with the rain only enough to sustain the city for a few more months. As I type however I can hear a storm brewing so heres hoping for a nice big downpour! Fingers crossed we continue to get enough rain until they finish the pipeline that will connect us to the Brisbane supply.

I am still doing some designing, I love it so much as it really satisfies my creative urges. I would love dearly to do it full time. We can only dream right?? I am doing a contest at the moment so haven’t been putting out much but the kits I have been working on should be available soon, with any luck!

Wow what a book! Ok, lots to do I had better get too it!

Not long now till the walls go up!

Ok, well a few weeks yet! Our finance has been approved for our new house and the building contract has been signed, so it is just a matter of weeks before they can start building! We have to wait for the council approval to come through first.

Dean is still training and ran 18km’s the weekend before last. He is planning on doing a half marathon this weekend. He has also started swimming training and swam some laps at the pool where our kids go to swimming lessons. He ran down there early before the kids classes started and did his laps until we got there.

Jasmine is now in level 4 at swimming and for the first time swam in the 25meter lane. Not only did she swim in that lane but she did many laps without stopping mid way. She was a bit panicky at first as she never used to be able to touch bottom in that lane, but she didn’t realise how much she had grown! Once she realised she could not only touch bottom but could swim an entire lap, she gained a lot more confidence in her swimming ability. I am so proud of her, I wasn’t able to swim 25 meters until I was in grade 4. She is the smallest kid in her class too. The other kids look a couple of years older than her. I told her she is now a better swimmer than me, I was pretty ok (nowhere near as good as Dean) when I was a kid but I couldn’t swim 25meters now anymore. Hopefully once I get my health issues sorted out I can start working on my fitness.

Kyan is still acting up a bit in swimming class, when he saw he had a new teacher he didn’t want to do his lesson but got in and winged, then when Dean walked into the area he started throwing a tantrum! So Dean walked out and he got worse, but I managed to convince him to behave so that Daddy could watch his lesson again. He still won’t put his head in the water unless he does it accidentally when jumping in. He was great at it as a baby, but hates it now. Hopefully he will get over that in time. At least for the time being he is back to doing his lessons. We have started to give Jaz pocket money.

She now gets $1 a week if she cleans up after herself, so no leaving clothes on the floor, cleaning up her toys when she is finished with them, putting her PJ’s away, making her bed keeping her room tidy etc. If she doesn’t do it all she doesn’t get the full amount. She got 80c this week. LOL Last week she decided she was going to save for a Barbie, then it changed to a hoola hoop and this weekend she decided she was going to save for a tamagotchi pet. It will be interesting to see how she goes. We told her if she saved half of the more expensive items we would help her out with the cost. So far she has saved $3.80. She got $1 the first week, $2 from the tooth fairy for a tooth she lost recently and then the 80cents from this week. She is trying harder to clean up after herself so we will see how it goes. Hopefully she will improve and keep it up.

House Plans & General Update

It is official (and has been for a few weeks now) our block of land is now officially ours, wahoo! :-)

Our plan has now been drawn up properly so we just need to get a few things finalised before we can start building.

Dean has been training to do a Tri-athalon in April with one of the partners at work. Dean last weekend competed in the Bridge to Brisbane, doing the 10km run. He is doing so well with his training and is really enjoying his increased fitness. He has bought a new bike to replace is 20yr old dinosaur and has started riding as well.

I am not doing as great health wise! My fevers are continuing on a daily basis, as is my anemia, insomnia, exhaustion, and now there are new symptoms adding into the mix. I have a whole host of symptoms that have been going on for some time, including joint pain which up until recently has been pretty managable. However in the last 6mths or so I have been getting really severe bouts of joint pain which has given me a whole new appreciation for what it feels like to suffer from arthritus. Nurophen just isn’t cutting it anymore and I have had to start using stronger anti-inflamitaries. There was one night a few weeks ago, where I was in that much pain that I was in tears.. and it takes a LOT to get me crying. The last time I remember crying due to pain was when I had gall stones.

Now that I have started the heavier anti-inflamitories it is a lot more managable but my joints remain very weak and do get sore if I strain them too much. As well as the increased joint pain I have started getting a lot of lymph node swelling. It started out with just one here and there but over the past 2 or so weeks I have had continual swelling in several lymph nodes. At one point I was sure they were all swollen, I had no idea there were so many lymph nodes in the body! I sure do now!

I have had more blood tests than I can count and there is no sign of lymphoma or anything hideous like that, but my ESR levels are raised, and my platelets are low.

I went to see an endocrinologist last week as my gp thought some of my symptoms might be related to PCOS, but he confirmed that they weren’t (as I suspected) and also made the suggestion that he thought my symptoms were consistent with Lupus. When he mentioned this I told him I have suspected they might be as I have been researching all my symptoms and Lupus fits. As much as I don’t want Lupus, at this point I just want an answer, this has been going on for 2 years almost, and I want to know what is going on so that it can be treated and we know where we are heading.

The endocrinologist wants me to see a Rheumatologist, so after a bit of searching I found a good one who doesn’t have a 6mth wait. I have an appointment on the 14th of October, and I am hanging for it, because my symptoms just seem to be getting worse and worse lately. I am finding it increasingly difficult to get through a working week without needing a day off to recouperate a little. I am spending my weekends resting as much as I can so as to cope with the next week of work. It just isn’t fair on me, Dean or the kids as poor Dean is lumped with the bulk of the household duties because I am too tired to manage much. I try and do as much as I can when my energy levels are better than usual, but that often doesn’t go very far.

It is the wierdest form of tiredness I have ever experienced. When it is really bad, it feels like my body ways a tonne and lifting an arm feels like lifting boxes of weight. Moving from one room to another requires rest at the other end, yes you heard right, REST! :-( Thankfully I have only experienced this a few times, but I can feel myself heading that way when I overdo things. The sad part is I am not even exaggerating!

I haven’t done any designing in the last few weeks since I have been more tired than usual. The mojo just doesn’t flow when I am this tired.

Anyway, at this point Oct 14 can’t come quick enough..I just hope the Rheumatologist has some answers and a decent treatment plan for me. As my brother so eloquently put it a few days ago, at least I can eat at Sizzlers! LOL
