What a Shock! Lost tooth, and a bit of an update…

Posted by clikchic on May 25, 2007 in Family Scraps

Well you could say I had an eventfull evening last night!

I got home as per usual at around 5.45pm, put the bath on for the kids and went in to the bedroom to get changed out of my work clothes. I went in to my bedside table to turn on the light. (we don’t have a ceiling light as we need to get some electrical work done - long story)

Anyway, I reach out in the dark to the switch on the light and promptly knock it off the bedside table. It has always been a bit unstable on it’s base as it is a home made cast iron type thing we got as a wedding present and a bit unsteady. It crashes against the wall and without giving it a second thought I reach out in the dark to pick it up. I was aiming for the cast iron bit to pick it up and set it right, but instead grab the exposed brass and wire on the inside of the electrical fitting!

BZZZZT! I feel a horribly unsettling buzzing sensation go up my arm. I totally freaked out and spaced out and basically just panicked. I don’t know whether I dropped the lamp or it was thrown away from me but after about 3 seconds or so I was free.

My lower arm felt numb and my entire arm and shoulder felt sore. Most of the pain was in my hand. A little later I noticed pain in my leg as well so I figure the charge attempted to go down my leg as well. I didn’t really feel anything there but mostly felt it in my arm.

Well that shook me right up and I was feeling a bit unwell and overwhelmed by the whole experience so I tried to call Dean so he could come home and deal with the kids, but of course he was at a quote in highfields and was getting pour service so I couldn’t get through. I ended up sending him a text message which he eventually got and cut his quote short so he could come home. His clients were very understanding and I think I gave them a fright as well! He will going back to them this evening.

I am glad the kids were not in the room with me when it happened as they would have freaked out at how I reacted. Thankfully they were busy playing and did not hear me at all. It wasn’t till I came out that Jaz realised something was up and she was very sweet saying how sorry she was for me. Kyan had no idea and kept tugging on my sore arm for attention.. as he often does at that time of day!

All I have to show for it is two tiny little white burn marks on my pointer finger, although there was a little swelling last night. This morning I am still sore and have a headache, tho I don’t know if the headache is related or not. I have been getting them lately anyway so who knows. I am just extremely thankful that it was nothing serious. It wasn’t even enough to trip the safety switch. (tho it did feel like it!)

As a bit of a general update, the kids are reasonably well, they are getting their share of winter virus’s but apart from that are fine. Jaz seems to be continually complaining of tummy pains and I am a bit concerned about the fact she may have coeliac’s. I have been putting off getting her checked as I don’t want to put her through the trauma of a blood test and/or gastroscopy. I am also concerned that Kyan might have it given his dairy intolerance.

I am back on the mend as far as my coeliac’s goes, well I think anyway! I was getting fevers which I thought were due to gluten ingestion but I have been sure I haven’t ingested gluten this week and I am still getting a daily fever. It is only a low grade fever but I am getting it pretty much all day every day and it is getting rather tiresome!

I have made an appointment with my gp but couldn’t get into see her at her nearby practice till the 4th of June! If I get desperate I will go to her other practice. I want to get my ankle checked out anyway as I twisted it a couple of months ago and it is still giving me grief. I heard a crack when I twisted it and so I am concerned there may be a hairline fracture or something like that. If I land on it two heavily going down steps or do not walk as gingerly with it as I should it swells up in the evenings and seems to swell at times even if I am careful.

Oooh! And I have been meaning to post about this for weeks now! I keep forgetting! Jasmine has lost her first tooth! She was sooo excited to receive money from the tooth fairy! We haven’t been out to spend it yet, must do that on the weekend. I have taken photos and will post a layout when I get a chance!  She looks so cute with her little gap. Her new tooth is growing fast tho, and it won’t be long till it is full size.

Aussie Coeliac’s, Recipe & Update

Posted by clikchic on May 6, 2007 in Family Scraps

I thought I should send a bit of an update on how I am going with Coeliac’s.

I have finally after 2 and a half weeks worked out the source of contamination. Or at least worked it down to two things. I think it is either some Arnott’s Rice cookies I was eating or some tinned strawberries. I think it is most likely the cookies, which is a shame because they were the first biscuits I have had since being diagnosed that actually tasted like real cookies and not diet cookies! I am going to trial the strawberries again soon to make sure it is not them as I would really like to be making fruit frappes for breakfast again and fresh strawberries are too expensive at the moment.

My Yummy Fruit Frappe Recipe

4 Ice Cubes
1 Banana
1 Slice of Watermelon
8-10 Fresh Strawberries or Equivalent in Tinned. (Fresh is nicer!)

Blend in blender and enjoy!

It is soo refreshing in the mornings and is a great way of getting your daily intake of fruit, particularly for people like me who are not that into fruit! Mind you, I have been eating dried apricots and almonds every day at work for morning and afternoon tea so I am at least having lots of goodies there. I am trying my hardest to bring my vitamin levels back to normal so that my energy returns to what it should be.

I have been off the contamination cookies for about a week now and am getting there. I had a bit of a setback with a virus making me tired again! I can’t wait however to return to normal again! Who knows I may actually be able to keep up with things around the house and still have time for all the other stuff I want to do. Would be nice!

I am still making my bread, fruit loaf for breakfasts and regular bread for when we have eggs or something for dinner which we do on occasion when we need a quick and easy meal, or when Dean and the kids have something I can’t have.

I really must check out the Deli my fellow local Coeliac friend told me about. Will be interesting to see what they have there.

I have started an email support group, (A yahoogroup) for Aussie’s with Coeliac’s. I am already part of a yahoogroup but they are not overly supportive, so I thought I would start my own. I wanted a group that was good for sharing info as well as supportive, not just the former. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any others, so decided to start my own.
